Here's why you should consider hosting a destination wedding

Think you’re obsessed with weddings? Well, the good news is that you’re in the right place - I am too!

I am passionate about romance, love and the perfect image – that’s why I became a wedding photographer. My job has taken me all over the globe. With the launch of my new website, it feels like the right time to start sharing my stories and wedding planning advice with the world!

So, welcome to my blog! I hope you’ll find something here to inspire and interest you as you plan your big day. If not, keeping reading anyway and I’ll do my best to spruce up future content…!

First up: five reasons why you should consider a destination wedding.

I have had the enormous privilege of photographing weddings in some of the most beautiful destinations on the planet, and these are just a few of the reasons why I love them so much.

1. Your wedding will feel like a holiday

A destination wedding is like going on holiday with all your favourite people in the world.  I promise you’ll get a tingle of excitement every time another group of guests arrives at the airport, and it is wonderful to watch friends and family get to know each other in a relaxed setting before the Big Day itself.

Plus, once the wedding is over, you are instantly on honeymoon!

2. People always make the journey

Many couples worry that by planning a wedding abroad, they will be excluding a lot of guests. In my experience this just doesn’t happen. The people who matter will always make the effort to attend your nuptials. These days, there are so many low cost airlines and accommodation options. These usually make logistics surprisingly easy!

3. The photography will be so unique

Destination wedding photography is very different to regular wedding photography. You are working with different tones of light, different backdrops, and different environments, so the overall tone and theme of the images is completely unique to your location.

For instance, a beach-side wedding will be full of bold, rich colours – the blue of the ocean, the gold of the beach, and the green of the palms; while an Alpine wedding will sparkle with whites and cool blues.

4. It might actually work out cheaper…

People are often surprised at how affordable their dream destination wedding can be. If you plan ahead, you can take advantage of favourable currency rates, and off-season deals. Plus, many resorts can offer bespoke wedding packages- which include accommodation, food, and even transport for guests.

5. You can relax

By the time you arrive for your wedding, all the hard work will be done. You have already gone through the stress of packing the right things, and remembering your marriage license – all you have to do is wake up, take in your surroundings, and enjoy the day. What’s not to love?
